Last night the moon was hidden behind a think blanket of cloud. By midnight, when our street lights went out, (it's the countryside - we don't do light pollution) it was pitch black. As I climbed into bed, slowly acclimatising to the shadows, Hubby came upstairs too.
"It's a bit dark," he said, shuffling about trying to avoid furniture.
"Must be the complete absence of light," I replied, watching him grope around in the chest of drawers for his jammies. By now my eyes had adjusted as much as they were going to and I could just about pick out his dark shadow fiddling about with something vaguely trouser-shaped.
"I can't tell which is the front and which is the back."
"Feel around for a tag they're normally at the back."
"Nope. Can't find it. Sod it! I'll just put them on and hope for the best." After a small bit of scrabbling about, jammie bottoms were on.
"Alright?"
"Weeeell … I don't suppose it's a good sign that the pockets are going the wrong way."
As he whipped them off again to turn them round I helpfully pointed out,
"You know, sometimes it's just easier to put the light on."

Hehe, yes, sometimes it IS easier to turn on the light. But where's the fun in that?
Yep, I mean, what were you doing blundering around in the dark like that? Trying to get romantic? ;-) xx
Natalie We scrabble around in the dark a lot as neither of us likes artificial light. Obviously we have them and we use them but I'm a mood lighting girl - I like my candles. And as you say - it's fun! It's very rarely pitch black though LOL!
Vanilla Ha! Do you really think he'd be putting jammies on if we were trying to get 'romantic'? Puh- lease. That is normally preceded with entreaties of "gerremoffya!"
Oh my! I've gone and said too much again!
I totally relate as I don't like to turn on the lights either. But sleeping without jammies is always an option whether or not lying down is immediately followed by snoring.
As JB doesn't wear 'em, I thought this jammies thing was darling.
Sarah so true and I remember those days well! Right now it's bloody freezing. There have been nights that I've had to put on socks I was so cold.
Robin Hubby took to wearing them when the kids arrived. Good thing too as we discovered when they started having friends for sleepovers who clearly were never taught to knock!
So between kids without boundaries and the arctic conditions, jammies are a must have in the Volker house.
Well, I think he sounds very considerate!
P.S. I love soft cotton jammies in the winter!
Bee indeed he is! ;0)
LOL Men don't think that far ahead! lol
A wonderful domestic vignette.
I quite agree about the light.
Actually it sort of reminds me of the awful dilemma:
sort of want to wee
cold in the bathroom
can I go to sleep and forget about it?
Do I lie awake endlessly debating?
etc etc
I am nostalig for English clammy cold.
Ha, this was a fun post, Janey ; ) I like whoever decided to force you to post every day!
This is absolutely hysterical. How did I not find your blog before today.
