Back to school tomorrow. Poo. Poo. Smelly old poo.
Today is the day for sorting it all out. There are those who have probably had their children's uniforms pressed, their spanking new shoes polished and their bookbags primed with new stationary since the second day of the holidays. But not me. I have learned that being too organised too early makes one complacent. Things get forgotten. More importantly - children grow. They shoot up during the summer holidays like little sprouting beanstalks. They may have some recessive giant genes.
So today it's shoes and bookbags.
I'm pretty sure they are OK for a day or two re uniforms. Maybe. They'll be fine.
They're not back to school tomorrow anyway. It's just me. I have to go in for a morning to go through all the stuff we're doing for the up-coming term. Also I get to meet the teacher I'll be working with next year who is new to the school. I must try to make a good impression.
Things to remember:
1. Be on time.
2. DIARY.
3. Pens.
4. His name.
5. What it is I'm employed to do.
6. Where I work.
Should be fine.
The boys go back on Thursday. Big Son goes into Key Stage 4 and is immediately plunged into all thing GCSE. Poor sod. And Small Son officially leaves the Early Years Foundation Stage and ploughs into Key Stage 1. He's officially a big boy now and even has his first wobbly tooth to prove it. Daughter goes back on Friday. She's just freaking out because she hasn't received her bus pass yet. I should probably be freaking out about that too but until I started to tell you about it I'd completely forgotten. (Must ring the transport people. Must write that in THE DIARY. Must remember to look at THE DIARY.)
Now for the first thing. Clean children who have become practically feral over the summer.
And oh yes - get out of bed.

Haircuts help with the feral outside. Not much can be done about the inside.
Not a good time of year for teaching assistants and parents of small children.
I can hardly believe it's that time already. It's two years now since I've been involved in all that.
Good luck with getting it all ready.
Ha - my kids were feral before school started too. And... I waited until the very last possible day to go to the store to get school supplies. Sure, all the good folders with rock stars on them were gone, but so were the crowds. Procrastination is smart sometimes.
hope they have a great school year! And you too!
McK - haircuts are the one thing I actually have already done - but only because the boys needed to see where they were going on holiday.
FHH - It came upon us all too quickly. I love the summer holidays. Even when I didn't work I used to love them. I'm not one of those parents whose kids drive them up the wall. We're a very chilled out bunch here in Whittersville.
Monnik - I'm with you all the way. Would you believe they started advertising Back To School stuff the day the kids broke for summer? Crazy times we live in - crazy times.
I used to love school holidays with the kids too. I loved the lack of time limits, and seeing more of them, and the lack of stress. I like to think we were fairly chilled out too!
Oh school. I actually miss getting ready. One of my favorite things in the whole world was buying school supplies. No joke. Pens. Pencils. Paper...hmm, it's no wonder I'm a writer.
So, no more late night Facebook Scrabble? (You are one of the few people I know who can get away with saying "smelly ole poo" and actually make it sound like a witticism.)
We went to Reading today to do the back-to-school shop and the shoe department was complete and utter chaos! Sadly, it is MUCH better to wait until the last minute when it comes to shoes.
Please update us on your first day! And good luck . . . xx
New school tomorrow for Son of Whirl.
Accidentally ironed him in his uniform to save time.
Whoops.
LOL - I am so glad I don't have to endure any of the back to school stuff - I don't envy you any of it! Me, I'll stick to writing in my jammies until indecent hours of the day.
Good luck with it all! ;-) x
I once shot up 5 or 6 inches and gained 20 pounds over the summer. I so understand about the clothes. I'm sure my mother had fits that year as it was also the summer we moved across the country.
My brother waited until his senior year of high school to get his growth spurt.
Getting ti all together, making lists, being organized and then remembering to look at the lists - that gets beyond my capabilities sometimes. Hope it all goes well for you.
good luck with all the preparations! All will be fine. How's living by the Diary? Had much success?
Oh God I'm practically hyperventilating reading this. My boys are 2 and nearly 4. Big one goes to school next September and then I guess the merrygoround of term time and all that it entails will be upon us. WAIL!
Hope your Wednesday went well! Now for the cascading of the rest of the week's school stuff, huh?
The 'Get out of bed' part is the toughest of 'em all. :D
Oh you'll make smashin' impression. :)
All the best with the bean stalks. :D
